Behind every patient suffering with addiction, there is a network of family and friends who have interacted, both positively and negatively, with the patient, either creating a support system or throwing up barriers to the patient's recovery. What can we as providers do to help families and friends understand what the patient is going through and what they will need to head farther down the road to recovery? What tools do we have? What is our role as providers in interacting with family and friends of the patient?
