Not-for-profit hospitals have enjoyed a significant financial advantage due to their tax status in America. Recently this status has come under question as the IRS revoked the tax status from an unidentified hospital for not complying with ACA regulations. Additionally, Dan Diamond from Politico raised the question of whether hospitals are providing a community benefit that accounts for the tax exemption that they receive. Should not-for-profit hospitals be required to provide more significant benefits to their community in order to garner their tax status?
