Today is the last day of our discussion and I would like to invite the experts to share their thoughts about the future of diabetes care. With a growing population of children and adults with diabetes and limited resources (financial, access to organs, etc.), where should the efforts (from federal, commercial and academic entities) be placed: bionic pancreas or islet transplantation programs? One could argue that with the rapid pace of development of technical capabilities and artificial intelligence, the bionic pancreas is the way of the future, however, there is a clear desire for a “cure” that would not depend in the use of devices – even very intelligent ones.
