Hi! My name is Austin Chiang, a 3rd year GI fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital. I'd like to welcome all the experts to what promises to be a fascinating discussion. The microbiome is certainly a hot topic and I'm excited to learn what emerging therapies are being developed in this realm.

For starters, can you define the microbiome? Why is the microbiome gaining attention in recent years and what developments have contributed to our understanding of the microbiome in recent years? What are some established conditions directly arising from pathology involving the microbiome? What therapies have been developed for these conditions and what innovations are there for these ailments? (We will ask about potential applications of these therapies and innovations in other conditions in a separate post)
