Many residency programs struggle with exposing trainees to non-traditional careers. This leaves elective time as the primary opportunity for students/residents/fellows to gain valuable experience before entering the job market.
I, for instance, completed a one-month elective at the National Coalition on Healthcare. Whereas a friend of mine completed a one-month elective at SiriusXM's "Doctors Radio" station.
Some electives that I've come across are: ABC News' Medical Journalism Elective for Residents (4wks), Doctors Without Borders volunteer campaigns (variable), Pfizer Post-doc Fellowship (1yr), Merck Post-doc Fellowship (1yr)
What are some opportunities that you have (or have not) participated in? What are some online resources for trainees seeking opportunities (www.nonclinicaljobs.com , etc.)
