Question special

Often times, large firms such as McKinsey/BCG/Bain recruit MD and MD MBA students for health care consultant positions prior to completing medical school. On occasion, these students will complete 1 preliminary year of residency before going on to work at their respective firm.

For senior medical students and interns sure of their non-clinical career path, do you recommend completing an entire residency before pursuing employment? What about the opportunity cost of completing a 3-6yr residency? Is the 1 year of prelim experience enough?

Thank you for your thoughts.
