Though this conversation is geared toward physicians negotiating compensation, there is a strong medical student presence on our discussion forums, and I am sure many would like to know: what do I need to be thinking about as I go through med school and eventually pick and apply into a speciality? How do I gauge the true, future material impact of (1) my choice of speciality, (2) my decision to pursue additional training like fellowship or additional degrees like the MPH, MBA, PhD, etc., (3) my chosen geographic location, (4) my desire for work-life balance and flexibility in scheduling, and other similar factors when it comes to estimating and negotiating payment schemes?
