There is a growing interest in GH within the US. Med students, residents and faculty are interested in working or collaborating abroad, either in clinical or research settings and there is a growing body of literature and resources for them. However, little is said about international MDs interested in having a GH career. As a Guatemalan, trained as an MD in Guatemala and as an MPH in the US, interested in developing a Global Health career in Latin America, I wonder what the role of students like me is. It seems obvious that we could as bridges and facilitators of sustainable Global Health initiatives in our home countries, but identifying the scarce opportunities seems challenging. How can International MDs, interested in GH, develop a GH career in their home countries? What are the skills / experiences US partners would be looking for? and are there GH opportunities specific for international students in GH settings?
