A lot of IMGs are completely alien to research work. In a lot of medical schools overseas, research and even posters are not incorporated in to medical school training. Thus, it can be very overwhelming initially to start writing abstracts, initiating research and working through publications. Residency itself is so busy and for the most part, you have to build a strong CV by the end of PGY-2 so you are ready to apply. What can IMGs, especially those interested in fellowships, do learn the process faster, get comfortable with research/posters and be productive? Are there any courses for free or minimal price that they can take even before they begin residency to help with this? English and just writing a paper in a language that is not native can be a hurdle. Any tips on helping IMGs with these barriers?
