The authors mentioned that they chose to analyze acute myocardial infarction since it was one of the first conditions for which 30-day risk-standardized mortality rates were developed. To the authors and experts, are there other conditions for which there is considerable heterogeneity in risk-standardized mortality rates that could be analyzed? Have there been similar analysis done for these conditions? Do the authors and experts predict results for these other conditions to yield similar emphasis on improving short term hospital performances?
