As we get closer to the conclusion of this discussion, I'd like to switch gears and briefly touch on the collaboration involved in this study.

Indeed, this study includes authors with affiliations at several institutions, including the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University, the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine and Departments of Pathology and Medicine at Stanford University, the Departments of Pediatrics and Computer Science and Engineering at UCSD, the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project and the Allegheny Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, Yonsei University College of Medicine in South Korea, Medical School of Henan University in China, and Bar-Ilan University in Israel.

Such collaboration can be challenging but also extremely rewarding. How did this collaboration evolve? What recommendations do you have for scientists and physicians who hope to become involved such collaborative efforts? Our experts are also welcome to comment on their experiences with collaboration in retrospective or prospective research on colon cancer.
