I've been looking forward to this discussion.
Currently we seem to be centered on mentorship during PhD training. But it seems just as important to find mentors during residency and especially during fellowship. This is something I'm thinking of as I gear up for residency interviews in the fall. Foremost in my mind is finding the place where I'll get the best clinical training; however, it's almost just as important to me to find a new mentor - particularly someone who can further model the career of a physician scientist.
I haven't had to "look" for a mentor (in the neurosciences - I'm looking forward to a neurology residency) in quite a while, so what are some strategies for doing so as a resident, or as someone approaching fellowship? What has worked, or not worked, for others?
