How can we prepare ourselves to have meaningful, yet culturally appropriate discussions around bad news, especially when the patient and/or family may be of a different background than ourselves? Many med school experiences and training are set up to teach communication from a Western-centric framework, how can we develop our own process that acknowledges and supports differences in backgrounds and perspectives of the people we care for when delivering bad news?
