Some students will likely apply to both integrated-IR spots and DR (ESIR) due to the competitive nature of the field. Should the ones who are 100% committed to IR still apply for DR (ESIR)? What is your advice on writing separate Personal statements or do you recommend only one? Secondly, a fair amount of DR (ESIR qualified) programs choose not to use those spots, or those that do, have many residents compete for a limited number of spots. What do you recommend to the students who plan on going the ESIR route? Should they contact programs before hand and find if the program utilizes their ESIR spots, or what is the average number of residents that compete for a spot?
