By way of introduction, I’d like to thank the authors and experts who have agreed to take part in this discussion about sepsis. Over the course of this 10-day discussion, I will post one question each morning. My co-moderators will also be posting questions. As a guide for our discussion, we will be using the article titled, “Trial of Early, Goal-Directed Resuscitation of Septic Shock” (PMID: 25776532), which was recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine. I look forward to a lively and enlightening discussion.
I’d like to ask a few basic questions to put this research in context. What is sepsis? Why is it important? Why is the care of septic patients so challenging? Please feel free to address any or all of these questions.
