Females tend to be raised in an environment in which they interact as equals, without heirarchy, and attempt to reach concensus; whereas males tend to have more hierarchy in their formative interactions, with an acknowledged leader (e.g., playing with dolls vs playing on a sports team). Although this has been changing with more women playing sports and otherwise interacting within a hierarchy, do you notice any differences in your interactions with other health care professionals, based on their gender? Have you had experiences where female personnel had difficulty acknowledging you as the leader of the health care team? How did you deal with that?
