Over the next few days we will explore barriers to gender parity in medical leadership, discuss how these issues have been addressed, and propose potential solutions. On behalf of all the moderators, I’d like to thank our panelists. We are thrilled to be able to discuss this important topic with such a diverse and dynamic group!

According to a 2014 AAMC report titled “The State of Women in Academic Medicine,” women comprise nearly half of medical students and residents. This represents a dramatic increase over recent decades. Today, I would like to get a sense of our panelists’ experiences as female medical trainees. Was the decision to enter medicine a difficult one? As a woman, what was the greatest challenge that you faced during training? What proportion of your peers were women?
