Dr. Aarons argued that a more holistic review is necessary. However, each year medical students are applying to more and more residency programs, making screening tools out to be a necessary evil for program directors evaluating hundreds to thousands of applications. Without Step 1 numerical scores available for that purpose, how would you recommend residency programs manage the application load? Additionally, what would you recommend to students who have other concerns on record (such as multiple attempts to pass Step 1 or repeated coursework) given that these failures may now have more significance in the absence of numerical scores?
