We've talked amount about the process of choosing a medical specialty, selecting residency programs to which to apply, and strengthening applications. Once students have secured these coveted interview spots, how do we best assess these programs in the limited time we have available on-site? What questions should we ask the program director? The current residents? The research faculty? The patients and community members? What questions do we want to be prepared to answer? If a residency director happens to ask a question that's not quite appropriate (such as about family planning), how do you recommend a student respond (especially, for example, if the applicant already has kids)?
