I am a 5th year medical student interested in Paediatrics and probably more of a divergent thinker. I usually am concerned that if I enter as a Paediatrics resident then want to enter subspecialty I might get too much focused on one system or so much of a convergent type of thinking, also I might see so many similar patients and I would miss the variety; on the other hand I think I am interested in infectious disease and I think it needs to be more divergent as mentioned on the previous responses; so what do you suggest? should I forget about subspecialties even the global trend is to be expert in a small topic or get multiple subspecialties or the basis of my thought is wrong?
Thanks for you time,
Kosar
