Question special

Having 1006 patients that were excluded because they were planned to commence anticoagulants in 72 hours is a large number, was there any follow up to see if the anticoagulants were commenced in this time frame?

It was mentioned in the discussion that having further operations/procedures/complications often means anticoagulants are withheld for longer than expected, and in the introduction they discussed the evidence that 37% of all symptomatic pulmonary emboli appear to occur in the first 4 days after trauma. Perhaps this population, if they were not consistently anti-coagulated as originally thought might still have benefitted from early intervention with a vena cava filter.
