I've really enjoyed the wide-ranging discussion we've had over the past week and a half! We've discussed challenges around deciding whether to continue or taper chronic opioid for patients we inherit from other providers. We also talked about the challenges associated with making a diagnosis of opioid use disorder in patients on chronic prescribed opiates. All of you also contributed insightful discussion on disparities in opioid prescribing, structural harms to the patient in this case, parallels between the legal system and the structures we sometimes set up to monitor patients on chronic opioids, and ways that we can advocate for our patients. I'm honored to have the opportunith to work with such thoughtful, knowledgable colleagues!
I would love for everyone involved to post one or two things you'll take away from this discussion. Thanks for your participation!
