When it comes to preoperative clearance for surgery, the medicine or cardiology consultants are often asked to estimate the risk of the surgical intervention. How does knowing such estimated risk change preoperative management in the inpatient setting when the planned surgery is often a "must" versus in the outpatient setting when surgeries may be necessary but the timing is (relatively) elective?
