Though this question far oversimplifies the wide array of potential options for practicing medicine, it hits home at an essential dichotomy between surgery and medicine. I have been told that this is an important distinction to make as you work your way through medical school and is a really good place to start the specialty search. How do you know if you have the right personality, disposition, and skill set for a field? How much of choosing a specialty is choosing what you're already good at and how much is making room to grow into it?
