Alice is an engineer (software/systems) and clinical scientist who trained as an MD/PhD candidate at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. She received her undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry & Molecular Biophysics, and Molecular & Cellular Biology. During the completion of her PhD in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Department of Physiological Sciences, she discovered her passion for medical technology and started to really cultivate those interests. Her dissertation project involved, among many other things, heart and lung organogenesis and regeneration, 3-D bioprinting of stem cells and scaffolds, bioreactors, organ preservation, novel methods of CT/MRI imaging, and cellular bioenergetics and metabolism. She has taught physiology and anatomy courses in graduate school, and has had many previous research experiences in other fields, including orthopaedic surgery, urology, genetic engineering, and biomedical engineering. In her spare time, she enjoys playing music, participating in hacker/maker endeavors, visiting new places, and making balloon animals for friends. Alice is very passionate about science, research, technology, and medical/STEM education, and is often involved in efforts to make science and medical education more accessible and understandable.
