Dr. Matthew McLaughlin is a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellow at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts where he graduated with a degree in Psychology. After college, he worked in pharmaceutical research for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals for three years. He attended medical school at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. His research interests include using bedside echocardiography in shock patients in the ICU. He is a co-author of the Society of Critical Care Medicine guidelines for the use of bedside echocardiography which are pending publication. He has an active interest in teaching medical students and residents both at the bedside and through lectures on pulmonary and critical care topics. He is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Thoracic Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
