Amy Patel is a resident physician at Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the University of California, Irvine. A Southern California native, she completed her undergraduate and medical school training at the University of California, Irvine as well. Her research interests include improving surgical techniques and outcomes. She recently published an article demonstrating a novel approach using a tarsoconjunctival onlay flap to improve paralytic lagophthalmos. As chief resident for her residency program, she has a strong interest in improving resident education.
Andrea is a 2015-2016 NEJM Group Editorial Fellow. She is currently in the middle of her General Surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and is also conducting research focusing on improvements in breast cancer surgery. She plans to pursue a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the completion of her residency.
Dr. Areo Saffarzadeh is a Cardiothoracic Surgery Resident at Yale. He completed his MD and MS in Biomedical and Translational Science from UC Irvine. Areo is interested in resident, medical student, and patient education. He has a medical education YouTube channel with >30,000 subscribers. He is an advisory board member for Pocket Anatomy which develops iOS apps for medical education. He has created medical education content for McGraw-Hill, and other medical organizations
Dr. Laura Snyder attended college at Yale University and completed her MD at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She spent her Transitional Year at Kettering Medical Center in Dayton, OH and subsequently moved to Chicago where is will be starting her PGY-4 year in Ophthalmology. During her time at Kettering and University of Chicago, Dr. Snyder has served for 3 years as a resident representative for the Graduate Medical Education Committee. This allows her to stay abreast of changes in ACGME requirements and how this impacts residents across the medical center.
