Madhukar Trivedi, M.D., is a Professor of Psychiatry, Chief of the Division of Mood Disorders, and founding Director of the Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he holds the Betty Ho Hay Distinguished Chair in Mental Health and the Julie K. Hersh Chair for Depression Research and Clinical Care. Dr. Trivedi is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. An internationally recognized translational researcher focusing on developing and validating biosignatures of depression, he has served as PI and Co-PI on several single and multi-site clinical trials, funded by NIH, foundations and industry members. Dr. Trivedi has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed articles and chapters about the diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. For six consecutive years, he has been named a Global Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics. His accolades include the Gerald L. Klerman award from the National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association Scientific Advisory Board, the Psychiatric Excellence Award from the Texas Society of Psychiatric Physicians, the Gerald Klerman Senior Investigator Award, the American Psychiatric Association Award for Research, and the American College of Psychiatrists Award for Research in Mood Disorders. Dr. Trivedi currently serves as Deputy Editor of the American Journal of Psychiatry and as President of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
Dr. Shoptaw is a licensed psychologist and a Professor in both the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. Additionally, he holds an Honorary Professor appointment at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. For more than 25 years, Dr. Shoptaw has conducted a series of clinical studies in community clinic settings, primarily on topics that involve developing and testing medical and behavioral interventions to treat substance abuse and prevent the spread of HIV. He works with a broad spectrum of partners from university, government and community settings. In addition, he maintains a regular caseload of patients and provides training and mentorship to students and postdoctoral fellows. Dr. Shoptaw’s CV boasts more than 40 research grants and over 200 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters.
Dr. Ling is Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Founding Director of Integrated Substance Abuse Programs at University of California, Los Angeles. He is Board certified in neurology and psychiatry and has a long career in research and clinical practice. Dr. Ling’s research provided pivotal information for the approval of buprenorphine and naltrexone for treatment of opioid use disorders. His current research includes prescription opioid use disorders, the treatment of pain in opioid-maintained patients, and the development of pharmacological and behavioural treatment for cocaine and methamphetamine use disorders.
