Medicine rarely offers recommendations that are black and white. A degree of uncertainty often exists when evaluating treatment options for a given clinical problem. Although medicine has moved towards a more formalized system of evidence-based practice, so much research is published each day that it can be daunting to evaluate it critically. What are the best approaches to appraising the medical literature and gauge the reliability and applicability of results? Should we take study results at face value, even though the underlying limitations are perhaps as important as the findings. Join us to discuss the best way to critically appraise the medical literature and interpret published results.
