Dr. Mauck is a consultant and an Associate Professor of Medicine in the division of General Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Her clinical expertise is in Perioperative Medicine. Dr. Mauck serves as core faculty for the Mayo Internal Medicine Residency for perioperative medicine in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. She is also the founder and co-director of the Mayo Clinic Overview of Perioperative Medicine CME Course. Her research interestes include perioperative cardiac risk assessment and perioperative DVT prophylaxis. She leads the GIM Perioperative Medicine Research Group. She has authored 44 peer reviewed publications, 9 book chapters and has served as a section editor for MKSAP.
Dr. Pfeifer completed medical school and Internal Medicine residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin prior to serving there as chief resident. He subsequently joined the faculty of the Medical College of Wisconsin and served as Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency for 9 years. He is currently the director of the preoperative evaluation clinic at the Froedtert and Medical College Eye Institute. His clinical and scholarly activities focus primarily on perioperative and consultative medicine, medical education, and career development. Dr. Pfeifer has co-authored over 300 student and resident abstracts, case reports and national presentations and has written and lectured extensively on perioperative medicine and medical education. He is also Vice-President of the Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement, Co-Chair of the Society of Hospital Medicine Perioperative Medicine Special Interest Group, Associate Editor for shmConsults.com (an online curriculum for perioperative and consultative medicine), and the founder of preopevalguide.com - a comprehensive, point-of-care reference for preoperative evaluation.
Dr. Grant is a hospitalist in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Michigan Medicine, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. He is Director of the Consultative and Perioperative Medicine Program and is active in medical student and residency education. In 2011, Dr. Grant was appointed Associate Chief Medical Information Officer for Michigan Medicine.
Dr. Grant has published several papers in the fields of venous thromboembolism and perioperative medicine in addition to authoring many book chapters. He is also the co-editor of a comprehensive perioperative medicine textbook. Dr. Grant’s professional organization memberships include senior fellowship in the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM), fellowship in the American College of Physicians (ACP), and member of the Society for Perioperative Assessment and Quality Improvement (SPAQI).
Dr. Smetana is a general internist in the Division of General Medicine and Primary Care at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston and a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He received his medical degree at the University of California, San Francisco and completed his medical internship and residency at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He has been interested in perioperative medicine throughout his career. He has edited textbooks on perioperative medicine, and has co-authored a position statement on preoperative pulmonary evaluation for the ACP. He lectures regularly on this topic.
