Giffin is a 4th year medical student at the University of Pennsylvania currently doing his Masters of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School as a Zuckerman Fellow. He was born in South Carolina and studied biology and Spanish at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Following college, he spent a year in Bogotá, Colombia as a Fulbright Research Scholar, where he developed and implemented a vaccination program for sex workers against Hepatitis B. With this project, he discovered his passion for health systems delivery work. As a medical student at Penn, he has done healthcare research on price transparency, care transitions, and healthcare interoperability as a policy intern at the CMS Innovation Center and Emergency Care Coordination Center. Additionally, he helped to design and scale a clinical PrEP program that now serves over 150 high-risk patients in Philadelphia. Giffin is interested in a career, which balances his clinical work with healthcare entrepreneurship and policy. He plans to do a residency in Emergency Medicine and is currently working on two startups: one which delivers price transparency data to physicians and another to develop monitoring techniques for PrEP adherence.
