The COVID-19 pandemic has forced innovation in health care in many ways, one of which is putting to test advances in digital health. There has been no better time to test its value than in this environment of social distancing, reduced contact, and heightened health concerns. What does health care from a distance look like? What role can digital health tools play in bridging the distance, bringing health care and providers to our fingertips?

In today’s podcast, we are joined by Dr. Kevin Schulman, Professor of Medicine and Associate Chair of Business Development and Strategy in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University, and Dr. Byron Crowe, an internal medicine resident at the University of Colorado and Associate Medical Director at Solera Health to discuss digital health.

Dr. Byron Crowe is a resident in internal medicine at the University of Colorado and Associate Medical Director at Solera Health, a leader in creating networks of digital health tools that address chronic disease prevention and management and the social determinants of health. As a resident, he splits his time between his clinical work and his role at Solera, where he shares responsibility for clinical program design as Solera expands access to evidence-based digital health solutions by partnering with health plans to offer these programs as covered benefits for patients.Dr. Schulman was appointed as Professor of Medicine, Associate Chair of Business Development and Strategy in the Department of Medicine, Director of Industry Partnerships and Education for the Clinical Excellence Research Center (CERC) at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and, by courtesy, Professor of Economics at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business in June, 2018. His research interests include organizational innovation in health care, health care policy and health economics. With over 300 original articles, 100 review articles/commentaries, and 40 case studies/book chapters, Kevin Schulman has had a broad impact on health policy (h-index = 69). His peer-reviewed articles have appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Annals of Internal Medicine. He is a member of the editorial/advisory boards of the American Heart Journal, Health Policy, Management and Innovation (www.HMPI.Org), and Senior Associate Editor of Health Services Research.Krista was a 2019-2020 editorial fellow at the New England Journal of Medicine. She is from Nassau, Bahamas where she is training in general surgery at the University of the West Indies.
